On the 11th of December 2015, I officially became a home owner. I’d been saving for years, putting whatever was left at the end of my pay cheque into my savings account and watching the balance slowly go up. Owning a house was something I’d wanted for years, and as I was living with my parents, I was fortunate enough to be able to save my money.
I had started a new job in the July and was doing at least a 2 hour commute everyday – something which made my soul die a little bit more with every rush hour traffic queue. When i started looking for places to buy, I looked near work, after realising that it was a cheaper area, and the commute would be minuscule compared to what I was dealing with.
I found my house on a day of hunting with my Mum & Grandma, they both loved it too. It was in need of some serious redecorating, something I was happy to take on (side note – fortunately for me, my dad is a builder and volunteered to do the big bits for me – absolute life/ money saver!).
After what felt like months and months of form filling and waiting, it was official, I was a home owner! Picking up my keys from the Estate Agents was probably one of the most surreal moments of my life. It was finally time to start decorating and I knew exactly what I wanted – I’d been planning it for months. After a lot time (and money) spent in Ikea, Sofoworks & various DIY shops, it all came together. I have to say, although I’m still picking up bits here and there, I’m really happy with how it all turned out!
I’ve taken a few photos of some of my favourite bits, what do you think?
