I’m pretty sure this won’t come as a massive surprise to anyone, but I love nude tone lipsticks. I know, groundbreaking… The Kylie Jenner effect brought back this 90’s trend a few years ago, and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere anytime soon. My ever-growing lipstick/ liquid lipstick collection is a good 70% nude, with the odd red thrown in there for when I’m feeling fancy. NYX is fast becoming my favourite makeup brand, it’s incredibly affordable, excellent quality and really accessible. My Soft Matte Lip Creams collection is very near to taking over my MAC lipstick collection in terms of size. I now have 5, 4 of which are nude and the subject of this blog post.
So here they are…
From left to right; Athens, Cannes, Stockholm, Cairo.
Athens is my most recent purchase, its slightly more orangey than your average nude, which is exactly what I look for in a summer lipstick. Cannes was my first NYX purchase, and clearly, I haven’t looked back since. It’s a lot darker than the other colours and has more of a red tone, the perfect inbetween colour if a full-on red isn’t appropriate. Stockholm is what I think of when I think of nude, a nice warm colour, with a brown tone. Cairo is my current favourite, (seen in this post) it’s lighter in tone than Stockholm, so is very close to my skin colour, but as with all of these, I wear them over a NYX nude lipliner to add more definition to the outline of my lips.
Now we’ve talked about the colours, it’s time to talk about the formula. Like i said before, I wear these over a NYX lip liner, I find that if I wear these on their own, they don’t last very long. As soon as they glide on over a lipliner, they’re in it for the long haul. I can eat, drink, yabber on all day and they stay in place. For £5.50, the quality is amazing. I was in the habit of spending £15 on the MAC lipsticks, thinking there was no other option, when in fact, I genuinely think these are better. They definitely live up to the name ‘soft matte lip creams’, they’re incredibly matte, smell like cocoa butter and glide on so easily, the perfect matte liquid lipstick.
Have you tried these shades? Am I the only one with an ever-growing collection?
