Post in partnership with Layered Lounge
If you follow me on instagram, you might have seen that I won a competition a few weeks ago and the prize was a set of beautiful plates and bowls from Layered Lounge, a brand I wasn’t familiar with – so with that in mind, I’ve collaborated with them on this post, so I can share the pieces I won and find out a bit more about Layered Lounge and the amazing range of products they stock.
I won two items from the Astoria Collection – the dinner plates and pasta bowls and then this beautiful serving bowl from the Oslo Collection. All of the pieces are beautifully textured and amazing quality. The dinner plates are huge but that just means more room for food, and I’m all for that. The serving bowl is seriously stunning, with the uneven edges, it’s a real statement piece, and perfect for salads or nachos… whichever floats your boat.
Their website and instagram is all perfectly styled, and you can instantly tell they’re so passionate about what they do and the products they sell. Aside from their serveware, tableware and glassware, they do ridiculously real looking faux flowers, beautifully simple and elegant vases and really cosy looking throws.
Their style is a mixture of Scandinavian and Coastal (think, The Hamptons) with elegant but homely touches. They have a great selection of ‘finishing touches’ and show how easy it is to create a stylish space with a mix of their products, but also giving great ideas on how to incorporate their products with your own existing pieces. Their products are at a really great price point, considering the quality, proving that you don’t have to spend a fortune to create a beautiful home.
Here’s a little Q&A with Suzie and Lou, the founders of Layered Lounge:
Where did it all start and what was the inspiration behind starting the business?
Suzy and Lou met at the school gates after their girls started school and the conversation quickly turned to what did you do before kids!? Lou worked in event organising and recruitment and Suzy was in banking in the city. Knowing that we both wanted more for ourselves once the kids all went to school we kept discussing over glasses of wine what we could do to fit round family life. Lou project managed the build of her own home and Suzy renovated various house over the years so interiors seemed the perfect match. Also we both could not find affordable quality items on the High Street for our own homes. Our tastes too are very similar loving the simple yet beautiful designs from Scandinavia, The Hamptons and Australia.
What do you enjoy the most about running your own interiors store?
Currently only online we have both learned so much and having small budgets we are enjoying learning new skills, because there is only 2 of us doing everything. We have an IT man who helps tremendously with the website. We are involved in every aspect of the company from sourcing, website design, PR, taking photos, styling and packing every single parcel! We both just love finding new exciting items that can fit into our homes and give those rooms an uplift.
What 3 words would you use to describe Layered Lounge to a new customer?
Stylish, elegant, affordable
What are the key points that you look for when sourcing new pieces?
We both have similar tasted so if we both don’t agree it doesn’t make the cut! There is a lot of toot out there or items that are trend driven that just won’t last. We look for quality, price point, simple beautiful designs that are fresh and exciting that will stand the test of time for most homes.
Your product range is so beautiful, I bet your home is bursting with it?
Yes, we do have a lot of the items in our homes now it’s hard not too! The majority of photography takes place at Suzy’s house right now so often items don’t make it back on the shelf!
What is your favourite piece from the Layered Lounge website?
So many to chose from right now but I would say:Lou – Set of 2 Shoal Gin glasses for the warm evenings and a large G&T
and the Oslo Bowl both sizes one I use for salads and the large one is my fruit bowl on my kitchen island.
Suzy – Any of the Friso range as I have the whole set just great for everyday use and super quality
and Faux coral which looks amazing on my shelves
What are your best-selling products and why do you think they’re so popular?
Top sellers right now:Anything from the Pearl range – this has been so popular due to it’s stunning features of soft beads on the rim that adds that elegant touch in a contemporary yet stylish way.
Several of the ceramic vases from Scandinavia. They are so simple in design yet so effortlessly effective when grouped together. Best point is the price point, so great for your own homes or gifts.
Faux Flowers have been a great hit as most of our customers know how fussy we are with quality, so they realise that these are the best that can be found!
Everything is beautifully styled on your website, is that something you do yourselves, and do you enjoy it?
Styling is something we are both learning along the way and that we both love doing. It’s not as easy as it looks – have you ever tried to style and photograph a throw? It can take ages to get the fold and angles right but we are getting quicker! It does take a lot of time to get the images right as we need to concentrate about images for the website, IG, Facebook and PR and they are all different sizes, again something we did not know when starting out. We are looking forward to the day when we have our own studio to work with or can go on a location shoot to the sun!
Who or what are your favourite sources of inspiration for your own home?
We have both been lucky enough to travel and inspiration is everywhere from hotel lobbies to a restaurant table to a street market. We are not trend driven and neither is the business so products that have a timeless yet beautifully simple appeal always make the grade. It’s nice actually too to mix some antique pieces with history with the new items within our homes. We both love modern coastal living and by this we mean clean, simple lines with fresh colour palettes that can mix with the muted bases that our homes have. The Hamptons, Scandinavia and Australia are our key influences.
What’s next for Layered Lounge?
We are excited to start with some of our own ranges of textiles and accessories for our Autumn/Winter collections so watch this space…….
